The Kingdom of Sorndir is a Halryian kingdom of Aerothos within the Union. Sorndir is primarily known for its well-constructed castles and high quality of steel.

History[]

Origin[]

The Kingdom of Sorndir was founded in 237 2A and entered into the Union on the same year. It was founded by brothers Gerhard and Soren Brandt of Farwatch, both of whom served as officers from the East-Lands for the loyalist army in the Arathenian Civil War. After the war, King Marcus Hadrius granted them ownership of the East-Lands and independence from the Kingdom of Arathen.

Securing the Kingdom[]

After construction began on the kingdom's capital, Sorenhal, Soren Brandt soon passed away from illness, and it is from him that the city and kingdom bear their name. Gerhard Brandt was crowned the first king of Sorndir and eagerly welcomed into the Union. Sorndir's early years were peaceful, but it was not long before the kingdom was under threat from the neighboring Rovaski kingdom of Angfold, which surrounded it from the north and west. In the year 264, war was declared between Angfold and Sorndir. With help from the Kingdom of Arathen, the Rovaski were overcome, and the war ended in 266 with Sorndir claiming all of Angfold's lands. The northern region of Hruskaya was easily assimilated into the kingdom, for the Hrusko people despised Rovaski rule and welcomed the opportunity to join the Sorndirans. Those Rovaski who remained in the west were given a choice to flee to Rovaskia or join the Kingdom of Sorndir as loyal citizens. In a short amount of time, Sorndir became a notable culturally diverse kingdom, also having small populations of Orastan and Rhodri descended peoples as well. At this point, Sorndir had acquired all of the land that would consist of its modern borders.

Defending Sorndir, the Rovaskian War[]

In 294 2A, the Kingdom of Rovaskia under King Haraldr Rovason sought to regain its lost territories. After the previous year of unorganized skirmishing about the Isle of Mist, the Rovaski committed their efforts, taking the Isle of Mist and gaining control of the Sea of Vinmar. Quickly, they moved inland and brought ruin to western Sorndir. After a series of crushing defeats, a Hrusko order of knights, known as the Knights of the Wolf, turned the tide of the war in favor of the Sorndirans. As the war raged on for years, eventually the Kingdom of Orastus joined on the side of the Rovaski, and the Arathenians came to the aid of Sorndir. In 301, a truce was called between Sorndir and Rovaskia, and in exchange for ownership of the Isle of Mist, the Rovaski agreed to peace terms. After the Rovaskian War, no major conflicts occurred until the Third Galerian War in 372.
